Jason Garrett Calls Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston “Franchise Guys”

The Dallas Cowboys are not likely to target a quarterback with their first-round draft pick in the upcoming NFL draft. However, that hasn’t stopped head coach Jason Garrett from gushing over two of the top NFL prospect quarterbacks, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston.

Speaking highly of both quarterbacks, in an interview with Rich Eisen and Mike Mayok of the NFL Network, Garrett had this to say about the two likely top-10 picks.

Garrett further poured on the compliments.

I think everybody sees that in (Mariota). And very athletic, for him to run as fast as he ran, and then he’s really smooth dropping back and throwing the football. And he’s certainly the top quarterback, he and Jameis are the best in this class and they will be franchise guys for a particular team in this league.

With the 27th pick in the 2015 NFL draft, there is absolutely zero percent chance the Cowboys could draft either one of these prime quarterback prospects. However, they could reach deep in a later round for some future depth in the position. The Cowboys’ franchise quarterback Tony Romo will be 35 in April and backup Brandon Weeden turns 32 later in October.

It was just last year that the Cowboys had the opportunity to choose Johnny Manziel, but decided to pass on the Texas A&M prospect. Thankfully they didn’t, because we all know how well that worked out.

As for Garrett’s high regards for Mariota and Winston, two other teams will be the fortunate ones testing his franchise theory out soon enough.
