Rex Ryan Says Bills Will Explore “Quarterback Competition”

With only quarterbacks E.J. Manuel and Jeff Tuel on the Buffalo Bills’ roster, newly appointed head coach Rex Ryan calls the Bills’ quarterback situation “unresolved.”

While Ryan has claimed he is “excited” to work with Manuel, he minces no words that the Bills are on the market for an additional quarterback help (via NFL.com).

Will we explore possible veteran free agents or draft picks out there? Absolutely. We’re going to explore everything to add competition because that makes your whole team better.

We all know that when a team wants to add competition it means that it is desperate to find some improvement at that position. Last season, the Bills looked elsewhere from their 2013 first-round draft pick by pulling quarterback Kyle Orton out of his retirement home in lieu of starting Manuel. It would appear Ryan has his hesitations also.

Perhaps new Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman will have some success in working with Manuel over the offseason to see if he’s worth salvaging. However, for now, Ryan’s reasoning of the Bills needing some new “competition” totally makes sense.
