Government to Monitor Social Media Activity During Super Bowl

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will be taking to social media in order to help fend off potential attacks in Arizona during Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots on Sunday.

While stopping short of deploying sarcasm-detecting software (that’s a thing) that the agency had hoped to acquire, it will use social media-tracking technology ahead of and during the big game.

In addition to this, the government will employ a “no drone” fly zone over and around University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Long considered a prime target for terrorists, the Super Bowl has seen an increase in security since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It’s unsure how the tracking technology will work, but most threats made on social media are nothing more than trolls attempting to make a name for themselves. With that said, it’s better to err on the side of caution.
