Broncos Request to Speak with Ravens OC Gary Kubiak

The Denver Broncos, who are in need of a new head coach, have formally requested to speak with Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

Kubiak, who appears to be happy where he’s at, indicated earlier in the week that he was going to remain with the Ravens as the team’s offensive coordinator.

It is flattering and humbling to be invited to interview for a number of NFL head coaching positions, and I greatly appreciate these opportunities. But I have decided to stay with the Ravens. This is a special organization and we, like (John) Harbaugh says, are building something great. I want to be a part of that and contribute in whatever ways I can.

These remarks came prior to the Broncos job opening up. Kubiak is close friends with Broncos general manager John Elway and have been for some time. The two were roommates during their playing days and have a special relationship. It remains to be seen what type of role that might play in his decision-making process.

According to NFL Media’s Albert Breer, Kubiak and Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh will discuss the issue. With the Broncos mutually severing ties with John Fox, Elway gave the rest of the coaching staff the ability to speak with other teams. This would lead to us to think that the Broncos plan to hire from outside of their organization.
