Report: Florida Set to Hire Jim McElwain

It didn’t take long for the University of Florida to replace recently departed head football coach Will Muschamp. According to multiple reports, the school is close to hiring Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain.

The 52-year-old McElwain has headed the Rams program over the past three seasons, improving the program’s record each year. Colorado State is currently 10-2 on the season and awaiting a bowl bid.

Before his tenure in Fort Collins, McElwain acted as the Alabama offensive coordinator from 2008-2011 and worked in the same role with Fresno State in 2007.

McElwain also has pro coaching experience. He was the Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator in 2006. The veteran head man began his coaching career with Eastern Washington in 1987.

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley has targeted McElwain since Muschamp decided to step down following the season back in November.

According to a report from Yahoo Sports, McElwain met with several Florida administrators at his house in Fort Collins on Tuesday evening to hammer out the details of the contract. He has a reported $7.5 millin buyout at Colorado State, which obviously played a role in the negotiations.

An announcement could be made as early as Wednesday in Gainesville.
