The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t waste much time replacing Hanley Ramirez at shortstop. According to multiple reports, the defending NL West champions have acquired veteran Jimmy Rollins from the Philadelphia Phillies (via CSN Philly).
The interesting dynamic here is that Rollins waived his no-trade clause to go to the Dodgers. That has been a point of contention over the past couple years, especially considering Rollins has nixed some potential trades to other destinations.
Rollins, a 15-year veteran of the Phillies, hit .243 with 17 homers and 55 RBI this past season. He also posted a .323 on-base percentage and .717 OPS. The former All-Star still plays a pretty solid defense, but he’s seen his offensive output decrease during the latter stages of his career.
It remains to be seen what the Phillies acquired in return. We will update that information as it becomes available. Though, the players going back to Philadelphia have not yet to been agreed to.
Update (8:18 pm et): It is being reported that Philadelphia acquired two young pitchers from the Dodgers. The same reports now indicate that a separate deal between the Dodgers and Marlins could involve one of the players heading to Philadelphia in the Rollins deal. We will keep you updated.
