No NFL Team in Los Angeles Next Season?

Despite a ton of rumors suggesting otherwise and our very own insistence here at Sportsnaut that a NFL team will be relocating to Los Angeles in 2015, it appears that commissioner Roger Goodell has informed the three interested parties that this won’t be the case.

The San Diego Chargers decided not to opt out of their lease with Qualcomm earlier this week, which means that owner Dean Spanos is attempting to get something done with the southernmost California city.

Meanwhile, the St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders have leases that expire with their current stadiums following this season. Both have been mentioned as possible relocation options and seemed to make sense considering the built-in fan base each team has from their time in Southern California.

It has been since 1995, when both the Rams and Raiders departed Los Angeles, that the world’s second-largest media market has fielded a NFL team.

It will also be interesting to see how the situation plays out over the next few months. The door has not been slammed shut on 2016, which seemed to be a more realistic target date for a team looking to uproot to Southern California.
