Jason Garrett Shrugs Off Tony Romo Being Player of the Month

One of Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett’s jobs is to hand out game t-shirts, balls and other souvenirs to recognize a player who has achieved an accomplishment.

When Garrett learned that quarterback Tony Romo was the NFL Player of the Month in December, he had this to say (via ESPN.com).

We don’t get caught up in Player of the Week, Player of the Month, all of that stuff, but he’s certainly played very well,” Garrett said. There’s no question about that.

Romo had a fabulous month of December, leading the team to a 4-0 record, which claimed the NFC East Championship. During his awesome month, Romo threw for 987 yards, 12 touchdowns, and just one interception. He also completed 74.8 percent of his passes and posted the highest December passer rating in the NFL history (133.7).

After shrugging off Romo’s award, Garrett did have a few nice comments to share about his quarterback.

Tony has been a really, really good player, and I think he’s benefited from a lot of snaps he’s taken in this league. But part of playing well at the quarterback position is trying to create an environment where it’s a good team around him — both on offense and really throughout our team. Tony has done a great job responding to circumstances he’s been in this year. He’s played at a very high level.

It’s now time for Romo to extend this performance into the postseason and lead the Cowboys to a world championship. If he does play like he has in December, the odds are pretty good there.
