Jameis Winston Denies Rape Allegation at Hearing

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston may not have answered any questions during the two-day hearing regarding the school’s code of conduct policy stemming from a sexual assault allegation made against him in 2012.

However, Winston did read a prepared statement in a hearing that included the presence of his accuser (h/t CBS Sports).

I did not rape or sexually assault [the accuser]…I did not create a hostile, intimidating or offensive environment in the short period of time that we were together. [The accuser] had the capacity to consent to having sex with me and she repeatedly did so by her conduct and her verbal expressions. I never used physical violence, threats, or other coercive means towards [the accuser]. Finally, I never endangered [the accuser’s] health, safety, or well-being.”

It’s the first statement that Winston has made in relation to the allegations that he sexually assaulted a Florida State student back in December of 2012. Charges were not filed in the incident, but the school made the decision to bring Winston on charges that he violated the school’s code of conduct policy.

Winston, a redshirt sophomore, will likely declare for the 2015 NFL draft following the team’s bowl game. But according to the accuser’s attorney, the subjective opinion here is that Winston should be expelled. The lawyer also expects Florida State Supreme Court Justice Major Harding, who is residing over the hearing, to make a determination in two-to-three weeks.
