When J.R. Smith re-upped with the New York Knicks on a three-year, $18 million contract back in 2013, he couldn’t have visioned the disaster that has followed.
The Knicks currently sit at 5-25 on the season and are challenging the Philadelphia 76ers for the worst record in the Association.
And Smith isn’t too happy about it.
I mean, it’s a nightmare, we just gotta wake up from it,” Smith told Adam Zagoria of The Knicks Blog on Tuesday. “Hopefully try to figure it out, turn it around, whatever it takes. We’re losing by such a small margin we gotta figure out how to win those games.
For his part, Smith hasn’t done a whole lot to help the Knicks break their season-long slump. He’s played in 21 of the team’s 30 games and is averaging just 10.3 points per game on 41 percent shooting from the field.
Known as a shoot-first guard, Smith is averaging just 3.3 assists per game compared to 1.9 turnovers.
However, it’s not as if Smith is blaming the rest of the roster for the team’s lack of success. He knows full well that he’s played a role in it as well.
