The Growing Legend of one Odell Beckham Jr.

You must have been living under a rock if you have not seen what may have been the best catch in the history of the NFL.

Defying odds, gravity, physics and the force itself, Odell Beckham Jr. made himself a household name in the span of one single moment. But this will be far from the last time we see Beckham Jr.’s name in the headlines.

Beckham has the genes to succeed at the professional level. His father, Odell Sr. was a running back for the LSU Tigers and his mother was an All-American and national champion in track for the school as well. While his mother was the more celebrated athlete, Beckham chose to follow in his father’s footsteps, joining LSU’s football team as a freshman in 2011. Two seasons later Beckham Jr., exploded onto the national scene setting the school’s record for all-purpose yards with 2,315 in 13 games for the Tigers.

Genetics gave Beckham Jr. the base to lead the combine in both the 20-yard and 60-yard shuffles. The perfect tools for a receiver who runs routes as well as the Giants’ rookie does. His elusiveness, matched by stellar catching ability, makes the wide receiver’s short 5’11” frame a minor footnote in what is becoming a glowing resume as the weeks pass in Beckham’s rookie season.  He was nearly the perfect prospect, and now hopes to become the perfect weapon in Eli Manning’s arsenal.

The New York Giants selected the man they hoped to be the perfect complement to Victor Cruz with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 draft; but that dream took some time to develop as Beckham was slowed by a soft-tissue hamstring injury missing the team’s first four games. Yet the 22-year old made up for lost time, creating a growing legend that could eclipse the veteran Cruz’s salsa in the eyes of Giants fans.

In a short span of this season, Beckham certainly made his impact on the Giants’ offense. In just eight games Beckham Jr., has amassed 48 receptions for 699 yards and five scores, giving life to a Giants’ receiving unit that looked more like the Hindenburg than a viable NFL offense.
