Dallas Cowboys’ running back DeMarco Murray only needs 29 yards to break the franchise record currently held by former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith for the most rushing yards in one season.
With Murray listed as probable to suit up and play Sunday against the Washington Redskins, those 29 yards are easily within his reach. Speaking up about the game that could potentially carry Murray over Smith’s 1,773 season-yard mark, Murray had this to comment as reported by ESPN.com.
It’s definitely a humbling experience. I think we all have a piece of that in the O-line, coaches, receivers, tight ends, fullbacks, and think we all have a piece of that and whenever you get to have the chance to do something special like that, you want to share it and share it with the guys on this team and the people in this organization. So it definitely will mean a lot to us.
Not only could Murray easily break Smith’s record this Sunday, but by playing this week, it will be the first time in Murray’s four-year career that he has participated in all 16 regular season games. Additionally, through Murray’s 15 games so far this season, he has accomplished career highs with 1,745 yards, 12 touchdowns and 373 carries. Fortunately for Murray, he has remained somewhat healthy and even was able to play last week after having hand surgery.
It’s obviously been an incredible season for Murray who should easily accomplish those 29 yards while he focuses on the possibility of a Super Bowl in his future.
