Broncos Sign Chris Harris to Five-Year Extension

The Denver Broncos signed cornerback Chris Harris to a five-year, $42.5 million extension on Friday. The deal calls for a $10 million signing bonus and $24 million guaranteed.

While this might catch the average fan by surprise, Harris shows up on tape as one of the top cover corners in the entire National Football League. He’s right up there with Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman as the most impactful players at that position.

The former undrafted rookie from Kansas has recorded 10 career interceptions since taking on a regular role at the end of his rookie campaign back in 2011. This season has seen Harris lock down opposing receivers, recording a career-high 15 passes defended and three interceptions through 13 games.

It’s a solid move for a Broncos team that needs to lock up some of its young stars in order to remain competitive once Peyton Manning calls it quits.
