Jameis Winston’s Lawyer Releases Name of Accuser on Twitter

Jameis Winston’s lawyer, David Cornwell, released the name of the woman that is accusing his client of sexual assault in a Tweet on Wednesday.

Going against what many consider to be the ethical way of handling things when faced with such a serious situation, Cornwell thought it made sense to use the social media site as a platform to post the accuser’s name (h/t Big Lead).

This is something that law enforcement officials, defense teams and the prosecutors in sexual assault cases tend to avoid a vast majority of the time.

It also speaks volumes about Cornwell’s lack of decency when it comes to alleged victims in these types of cases.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, this type of tactic doesn’t seem to be foreign to Cornwell, who has apparently done the same thing in the past.

Part of Cornwell’s strategy has been to “vent” to the over 5,000 followers he has on Twitter, some of which are media members.

Winston is set to face a Florida State disciplinary hearing on November 17th stemming from this alleged incident. And while he hasn’t faced criminal charges in relation to the allegation, it remains to be seen what the school might do moving forward.

As it relates to Cornwell’s social media activity, it’s not yet known whether this will impact the case or if he somehow broke Florida law by sending out that tweet.
