Report: Red Sox Offer Pablo Sandoval $95 Million Contract

For someone that hit just .279 with 16 homers this past season, San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval is surely going to rake in the bucks.

The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo reported on Friday evening that the Red Sox have offered the former World Series hero a five-year, $95 million contract.

Sandoval’s market skyrocketed this offseason after yet another amazing postseason run. He helped the Giants win a third World Championship in five season by posting a .366 average in the playoffs.

Cafardo went on to report that the Giants and San Diego Padres are also in the $90-$95 million range over five seasons.

All things equal, it’s hard to imagine Sandoval turning away from the Giants if the money is really this close. Though, that might be the best long-term end result for the defending champs. While Sandoval has played the part of postseason hero throughout his Giants career, he has also been prone to falling out of shape. A long-term guarantee could very well magnify this even further.
