Former NFL DB Fred Smoot Arrested on Domestic Assault Charges

Former Washington Redskins second-round pick Fred Smoot, who played nine years in the NFL (seven with Washington), was arrested Sunday morning and charged with domestic assault (via CBS).

Police indicated that authorities were called to a residence in Ashburn, Va. at 11 a.m on Sunday morning after a female claimed Smoot grabbed her during an altercation.

Smoot, who is currently working for WJFK in Washington as an analyst, was suspended indefinitely by the company after the incident.

Officially, Smoot is being charged with misdemeanor domestic simple assault.

If Smoot’s name sounds familiar for off-field reasons, it should. He was a central figure in the Minnesota Vikings boat party scandal back in 2005.

Smoot started 109 games and recorded 21 interceptions in his lengthy NFL career.
