Andy Dalton’s Historically Bad Night

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton put up one of the single-worst performances for a quarterback in the recent history of the league in a 24-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.

The recently-extended former second-round pick completed 10-of-33 passes for 86 yards with zero touchdowns and three interceptions.

To put those numbers into perspective, he averaged 2.6 yards per attempt and put up a mind-boggling 2.0 quarterback rating.

According to STATS, Inc., Dalton was the first quarterback since Scott Brunner to put up a quarterback rating of 2.0 or less with a minimum of 30 pass attempts. Brunner accomplished that feat for the New York Giants back in 1983 (h/t Pro Football Talk).

To make matters more humiliating for the fourth-year quarterback, he stunk all across the board on Thursday night.

His 30.3 completion percentage was the lowest in Bengals history. This completion percentage was also the lowest for a starting quarterback in the NFL since Stan Gelbaugh completed 9-of-31 passes for the Seattle Seahawks against the Philadelphia Eagles in 1992 (both minimum 30 attempts).

Overall, Cincinnati converted on 3-of-17 third down conversions in the 24-3 loss to their division and intrastate rivals.

Yes, it was most definitely a night to forget for Dalton and the Cincinnati Bengals. As it relates to the Browns, they now share a tie for first place in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers at 6-3.
