When suspended San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith returns to action next week against the New York Giants, he will reportedly do so without getting paid a penny. In fact, Smith will owe the 49ers money when the season concludes.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Smith’s salary will be about $1.1 million ($525,000 after taxes). That $525,000 won’t be enough to cover what he owes to the 49ers.

That’s right. Smith will owe the 49ers $661,000 when all is said and done.
Welcome to the world of pay to play, guys and gals.
