Lovie Smith Compares Mike Glennon to Michael Vick

Mike Glennon

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith is showing why he’s a defensive mind here. According to JoeBucsFan.com, Smith drew a comparison that makes everyone who has watched a single down of either quarterback play take a second and third take (h/t NFL.com).

You know, you didn’t think I would say that about Mike (Glennon) moving around and keeping a play going like that,” Smith said. “He looked like Michael Vick running around on that play.

Outside of the fact that these two quarterbacks play completely different games on the field, surely there is a comparison to be drawn. After all, they do play the same position in the NFL.

Here is the play that Smith is talking about.

While somewhat high praise for his young quarterback, Smith has to hope that Glennon continues to display better decision making than his counterpart with the New York Jets.

That’s where any comparison, at least in Smith’s eyes, needs to end.

As it is, Smith did indicate that Glennon will continue to get the start under center with Josh McCown still nursing a thumb injury. Glennon is completing 58 percent of his passes for 672 yards with five touchdowns and just two interceptions in three games (two starts) this season. There really is no point to turn to McCown, who was a disaster early in the season, with Glennon playing this way.
