C.J. Spillman was Investigated for Sexual Assault in 2013

Dallas Cowboys special teams ace C.J. Spillman, who is currently under investigation for sexual assault stemming from an alleged incident at a team hotel the night before their Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers, was reportedly investigated for allegedly raping a woman last year (via NY Daily News).

Last December the woman told police in Santa Clara, Calif., that Spillman, now a special teams player with the Dallas Cowboys, groped her and tried to rip off her pants after she gave him in a sports massage at her studio. He also pinned her on the ground and tried to put his penis in her mouth, the woman said, according to a police report.

“He was trying to rape me!” the alleged victim told police.

He strongly denied those accusations at that the time, indicating that he had fondled the woman with her consent.

Spillman, then a members of the 49ers, was never charged in the alleged incident.

Well-known lawyer Gloria Allred, who indicated last month that an unnamed player (now known to be Spillman) played the day after he was accused of rape, was scheduled to meet with Roger Goodell’s sex-crimes adviser in New York City on Wednesday afternoon. It remains to be seen if this incident came up in the meeting.

It’s still important to note that Spillman was not charged in that incident and has yet to be charged in the most recent allegations, which are still under investigation.

Spillman was active last week against the Houston Texans following reports that he was being investigated. And to be honest, this new information doesn’t change anything from the Cowboys perspective. Head coach Jason Garrett indicated earlier this month that the team will consider benching a player only after he has been charged with a crime.
