Report: NFL Suspends Wes Welker Four Games

This has to be somewhat of a shock. Adam Schefter over at ESPN is reporting that the National Football League has suspended Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker four games for the use of amphetamines.

As Schefter noted, Welker will not get a mandatory four-game break from the football field after suffering yet another concussion against the Houston Texans in the preseason.

It’s some rather alarming news for the Broncos, who are also going to be without kicker Matt Prater for the first four games after he violated the league’s substance abuse plocy.

Welker’s suspension means that new additions Emmanuel Sanders and Cody Latimer will play larger roles in the Broncos offense to start the season. The five-time Pro Bowl receiver recorded 77 receptions for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first season with Peyton Manning and Co. last year.

It’s a huge blow to the team heading into a Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football.
