Do the Miami Dolphins Have a Quarterback Controversy?

Fresh off a disheartening 34-15 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin didn’t seem prepared to commit to Ryan Tannehill as the team’s starting quarterback for Week 4 (via Palm Beach Post).

After being asked directly about Tannehill’s status as the starting quarterback, Philbin responded…

We’ll utilize the players the best way we see fit.

The only other option on Miami’s roster is veteran backup Matt Moore, who last started a game for the team back in 2011. He’s put up an 11-12 record with 33 touchdowns and 28 interceptions in 23 career NFL starts, all with the Dolphins.

Philbin was then asked if Tannehill will start Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders in London.

We’ll decide our game plan before we leave to play Oakland.

The coach didn’t mince words here, Philbin and the Dolphins don’t seem sold on Tannehill as either the short-term or long-term option. And to be perfectly honest, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Sure the former first-round pick has had his struggles, but he is by far the better option than Moore.

Instead of leaving his starting quarterback out to dry, maybe Philbin should focus on what was a horrendous game plan on both offense and defense against Kansas City. You know, look in the mirror a little here.

Miami has lost two in a row following a solid Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots.
