USC CB Josh Shaw Admits to Lying, Suspended Indefinitely

The story of Josh Shaw may not yet be fully written, but it’s now obvious that the USC cornerback fabricated a story about saving his nephew from drowning in order to cover up something that’s likely even more disturbing.

Shaw admitted to team officials that he fabricated the story of saving his nephew. In addition to this, USC has suspended the cornerback indefinitely (via CBS Sports).

USC head coach Steve Sarkisian released a statement on the situation.

We are extremely disappointed in Josh,” Sarkisian said in the statement. “He let us all down. As I have said, nothing in his background led us to doubt him when he told us of his injuries, nor did anything after our initial vetting of his story.

I appreciate that Josh has now admitted that he lied and has apologized. Although this type of behavior is out of character for Josh, it is unacceptable. Honesty and integrity must be at the center of our program. I believe Josh will learn from this. I hope that he will not be defined by this incident, and that the Trojan Family will accept his apology and support him.

Shaw’s story seemed unbelievable in the first place. According to the senior cornerback’s original account of the incident, he jumped off a balcony in order to save a nephew from certain drowning. This, in Shaw’s original account, caused his ankle injuries.

Other reports after the initial incident indicated that Shaw may have been invovled in a burglary report and his injuries were a result of a spat with his girlfriend.

No matter what the truth is, Shaw lied about the incident and is now being suspended indefinitely by the USC football program.

We had previously called Shaw a hero for saving the young kid from certain death. In that reporting, we firmly believed that the press release sent out by the University of Southern California was the truth. That’s obviously not the case anymore. And Shaw has turned himself into a horrible example of the student-athlete just mere days after he was heralded as a hero.
