NFL Preseason: Week 2 Highlights from Saturday

We are back with the second of what promises to be dozens of sexy posts similar to this moving forward during the 2014 NFL season. As a visual clan, humans love shiny things. And who are we to deny you that?

Speaking of humans. It Remains to be seen whether Jadeveon Clowney is one.

We already know Aaron Rodgers has a human side to him. Just ask Olivia Munn. But we are still waiting to see if he’s part cyborg.

Rodgers completed 11-of-13 passes for 128 yards, including a three-yard touchdown strike to Randall Cobb. Rodgers led the Packers to scores on both of his drives in his first preseason action of the summer, as Green Bay earned a 21-7 win over the St. Louis Rams.

Michael Sam obliterated Derek Sherrod for his first career NFL sack.

Indianapolis Colts rookie cornerback Louchiez Purifoy had himself a game.

Purifoy was one of the most athletically gifted defensive backs in the 2014 NFL draft, but off-field issues forced him to go undrafted. The Florida product put up two tackles, one for loss (seen above) and had a pretty sick punt return in his second career NFL game. Purifoy has been a standout in Colts’ camp thus far and could earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

Eli Manning Completed just 1-of-6 passes in his second preseason game of the year.

But the Giants were able to come back from a 26-0 fourth quarter deficit to win the game 27-26. This doesn’t take away from the fact that Indianapolis’ first team completely dominated New York’s starters. Andrew Luck completed 12-of-18 passes for 89 yards, including an opening drive touchdown strike to Griff Whalen. As it relates to the Giants, they still seem to be having some issues getting used to a new offensive scheme. And Manning’s performance was a prime example of this.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Courtney Upshaw scores on a 26-yard fumble recovery against the Dallas Cowboys.

It came on a botched exchange between Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray of the Cowboys on the opening possession of the game. A gift score for the former Alabama product.

Dez Bryant scores crazy touchdown in losing effort.

1-64

Yeah, Bryant is an absolute freak. What he has done over the past couple seasons is nothing short of amazing. One of the most physically imposing receivers in the NFL, Bryant continually makes defensive backs look silly. Bryant recorded three receptions for 59 yards and a score in the loss.

Injury-plagued Cowboys running back Ryan Williams putting the pressure on other running backs.

That’s the definition of a battering bull right there. Williams, who was picked up off the street from the Arizona Cardinals, tallied 36 rushing yards on five carries on the night. He’s putting pressure on Joseph Randle to earn a spot on the Cowboys 53-man roster.

Deonte Thompson can fly.

This 108-yard kickoff return by Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Deonte Thompson may go a long way in determining whether he earns a spot on their final roster. The speedster brings another dimension to the table from a special teams aspect.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton puts up perfect rating in loss to the New York Jets.

This is some really good news for the Bengals. After the injury to Marvin Jones, who will be out for the first couple weeks of the regular season, the Bengals needed wide receiver Mohamed Sanu to step up. And he did just that on this 43-yard touchdown scoring catch from Dalton. In addition to this, the Bengals starting quarterback went 8-of-8 for 144 yards and a score in the loss.

Ben Roethsliberger to Antonio Brown. The next great quarterback-wide receiver tandem.

Didn’t that look similar to Tim Tebow’s overtime touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas a couple years back against Pittsburgh? Fortunately for the Steelers, this one came when Big Ben hooked up with Brown for an 76-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Pittsburgh’s first-team offense was dominating early on, tallying 14 points and 117 yards on two first quarter possessions.

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier is a man.

Shazier, who is going to start as a rookie for the Steelers this season, put up a ridiculous performance against Buffalo on Saturday evening. He recorded 11 tackles, a pass defended and this ridiculous interception when dropping back into coverage. Shazier has been one of the most dominating rookies around the NFL this summer and could very well challenge for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Teddy Bridgewater makes a statement.

Likely Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback Matt Cassel played extremely well on Saturday night against the Arizona Cardinals. He completed 12-of-16 passes for 153 yards and a score. But it wasn’t the veteran signal caller who stood out. Teddy Bridgewater led Minnesota to two fourth quarter touchdown-scoring drives to come from behind and defeat Arizona by the score of 30-28. Overall, Bridgewater completed 16-of-20 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns…all in the final 20 minutes of the game.
