Report: Shawn Marion Leaning Towards the Cleveland Cavaliers

The Matrix may in fact be joining The King in Cleveland this upcoming season. According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, former Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion is leaning towards signing a veteran minimum deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wojnarowski went on to indicate that the Indiana Pacers, Marion’s other primary suitor, has moved on to other options. If the Cavaliers are able to land the 15-year veteran on a league minimum deal, it would be the latest in a long line of free agents taking less money to join James in Cleveland. And in the process, it would help offset the depth issues that may come when Cleveland finalizes its deal for Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Kevin Love.

Marion, a former All-Star himself, averaged 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Mavericks last season. He’s a dynamic wing player that provides a tremendous amount of ability on the defensive side of the ball. Adding him to the mix would be huge for a Cavaliers team that already seems to be odds-on favorites heading to win the title into the 2014-2015 season.
