NFL Fines Johnny Manziel $12,000 for Flipping the Bird

Johnny Manziel’s money phone just got a tad bit less valuable, as the NFL fined the Cleveland Browns quarterback a cool $12,000 for flipping off the Washington Redskins bench during their Monday Night Football matchup earlier this week.

It’s the first fine of Manziel’s short career and likely won’t be his last. The eccentric signal caller took exception to the Redskins’ defenders continually harassing and mocking him during his second career NFL game. It boiled over when Manziel decided to flip the bird at Washington’s sideline in the third quarter.

Manziel had this to say about the incident to the Cleveland Plain Dealer earlier this week.

I just need to let it slide off my back and go to the next play,” he said. “I felt like I did a good job of holding my composure throughout the night and you have a lapse of judgment and slip up.

Call it immaturity if you want, but it’s highly unlikely that we will see a repeat of this incident from Manziel. The Browns were not too happy with the incident. And whether its coincidence or not, named Brian Hoyer the team’s starting quarterback mere hours after the game on Monday evening.
