Michael Brockers Offers Up Sam Bradford, Tom Brady Comparison

The St. Louis Rams must be reeling after news that they have lost Sam Bradford for the entire 2014 season with another torn ACL. But the team needs to be coming together, not cracking up.

Unfortunately, young defensive tackle Michael Brockers said a bunch of different words on Monday afternoon that together made little sense. Appearing on ESPN, the former first-round pick offered up pretty high praise in comparing Bradford to Tom Brady…at least from one perspective.

I’m just down because we lost our starting quarterback and he was looking awesome in terms of being so in control of the offense this season. It’s almost like he was a little bit of Tom Brady-ish, checking off routes.

Brockers is right about one thing there. Bradford did love to check down during the first four seasons of his career, averaging 6.5 yards per pass attempt.

Bradford might be a big loss for the Rams, but he isn’t irreplaceable. And utilizing Tom Brady as a comparison (no matter how vague) doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. As of right now, St. Louis is rolling with 12-year veteran Shaun Hill as its starting quarterback. Unless Bradford really did improve a great deal this past offseason, there isn’t much of a drop-off there.
