Lions’ Calvin Johnson Curious About His New Role

Detroit Lions’ star wide receiver Calvin Johnson is curious about his new role as he begins his first season in Joe Lombardi’s new offensive scheme.

Megatron enters his eighth year having worked under three coaching staffs and meeting his fourth offensive coordinator. Johnson, who will play his first preseason game this Friday, had this to say about the team’s new offense (via Detroit Free Press).

I’m as curious as anybody else. But one thing that’s not going to change is the way we go out there and work. We’re still going to go out there and bust our butts. No matter what Coach calls, however we fit into the plan, we just want to win at this point.

Sitting out for the first two preseason games was a precaution for Johnson after suffering an injured knee and finger last season. For the new offense under Lombardi, who comes from the New Orleans Saints, Johnson believes he will be able to get free more easily.

This should do wonders for Megatron this season as the Saints didn’t even have receivers of Johnson’s caiber on their team. Not only is Johnson curious, but so are his fans and those who may be planning to draft him in fantasy football. We’ll get a peek at Johnson this Friday when Detroit hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars in its third preseason game.
