Dodgers Acquire Roberto Hernandez From the Phillies

The Los Angeles Dodgers have added yet another arm to one of the best rotations in baseball. Roberto Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the NL West leading Dodgers on Thursday in a deal that nets Philadelphia two players to be named later.

The 33-year-old former All-Star was 6-8 with a respectable 3.87 ERA in 23 appearances (20 starts) with Philadelphia prior to the deal. Hernandez has been hot as of late, putting up a 2.18 ERA since the All-Star Break.

Hernandez represents the first veteran Philadelphia has dealt during trade season. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. has drawn a ton of criticism for the Phillies lack of activity prior to the non-waiver trade deadline in late July.

As it relates to the Dodgers, they add another decent arm to a rotation that is already among the best in baseball. It still remains to be seen where Hernandez fits into the equation. Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Josh Beckett have all pitched well this season, while No. 5 starter Dan Haren is coming off a strong performance against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday.

Hernandez’s best season came back in 2007 when he put up 19 wins with the Cleveland Indians.
