Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson indicated on Sunday that star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt will likely miss the remainder of the season due to a hand injury. While this isn’t necessarily a big deal for a team that’s not in contention for a postseason spot, Goldschmidt was having himself a good season for the Diamondbacks.
The two-time All-Star was hitting .300 with 19 homers, 69 RBI’s and a MLB-leading 39 doubles prior to the injury.
Gibson had this to say about Goldschimidt’s outlook for the remainder of the 2014 campaign (via MLB.com).
Realistically it’s eight weeks. So he’s done…If you rush it, then you end up injuring it and you displace the fracture, I think you’re looking at worse things.
The injury occurred Friday evening when Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Ernesto Frieri, hit Goldschmidt in the hand. Tests since the injury have indicated the All-Star has a fractured left hand.
