Cleveland Browns Making Preparations for Josh Gordon’s Absence

In a press conference today, Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine told reporters that the franchise anticipates wide receiver Josh Gordon to be suspended for some portion of the season.

In order for the Browns to realistically plan for life without Gordon, they sat him out in last night’s blowout 33-14 loss to St. Louis.

Pettine had this to say to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal (h/t NFL.com).

I wasn’t sending a message. Knowing that the decision is looming, that we’re fairly certain that we’re not going to have him for at minimum some part of the year, we wanted to make sure that we were getting repetitions with the guys that were going to be out there early.

It seems like it’s been a whole season already just waiting for the ruling to be handed down on Gordon, who waits on pins and needles to find out exactly how long of a suspension he will serve. In the interim, Gordon hasn’t played up to his full potential this preseason and is causing criticism from Pettine after a not-so-impressive showing against Washington last week.
