Desperately in need of a bat, the Oakland Athletics have acquired veteran power hitter Adam Dunn from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor leaguer Nolan Sanburn.

The 34-year-old dunn is hitting just .220 on the year, but has knocked 20 out of the ballpark and has driven in 54 runs. He also boasts a .340 on-base percentage.
The A’s, who have struggled a great deal at the plate since trading Yoenis Cespedes for Jon Lester in late July, find themselves currently four games out of first place in the American League West and have been shut out in the two games prior to this deal.
A total of 18 of Dunn’s 20 homers have come against right-handed pitching, which should also help the A’s down the stretch.
Dunn, who has indicated that he might retire after the season, is in the final year of his contract and hasn’t made the playoffs in any of his first 13 years in the Majors. Considering Oakland boasts one of the best records in baseball, he should end that streak in 2014.
As it relates to what the White Sox received for Dunn, it isn’t a whole heck of a lot.
Sanburn is 3-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 42 relief appearances for Single-A Stockton this season. He entered the year as the A’a 10th-ranked prospects according to Baseball America.
