49ers LB’ Aldon Smith Already Met with Goodell, Sitting Out Preseason Game

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith, who was scheduled to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday, has already met with the head NFL disciplinarian. 49ers general manager Trent Baalke confirmed the news to 49ers beat writers on Thursday evening.

In an unrelated or potentially related note, Smith sat out San Francisco’s preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

While that’s not necessarily big news in the grand scheme of things, it’s important to note that Smith worked out with the 49ers’ first-team defense prior to the game Thursday evening.

There is no indication when a suspension will be handed down or if the 49ers already know how long Smith will be out of action when the regular season starts next month.
