You couldn’t have written a better script in the Oakland Athletics first series against the Baltimore Orioles since the whole Josh Donaldson/Manny Machado incident back in June.
In the first post All-Star break game for each division-leading club, drama was high. Machado, who was booed throughout the game, put Baltimore up 4-2 against new A’s ace Jeff Samardzija with a two-run homer in the seventh.
Then with nobody out and two on in the bottom of the ninth, Donaldson did this to send the A’s into the night with a 5-4 walk-off victory.
It was one heck of a way to start the second half for both these first-place teams. Maybe we will get the honor of watching Baltimore and Oakland take on one another in October. If Friday was any indication, it would be a classic series.
