So much for the idea that Kyrie Irving wasn’t sold on the Cleveland Cavaliers as a long-term option for his services. According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Irving plans on signing a long-term extension with the Cavs at some point in the not-so-distant future.

Irving, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, has put up consecutive All-Star campaigns for the lowly Cavaliers. He averaged 20.8 points and 6.1 assists per game in 2013-2014.
The addition of European coaching legend David Blatt as Cleveland’s new head coach might have played a role in Irving’s decision to sign on long term with the downtrodden franchise.
Cleveland selected former Kansas standout Andrew Wiggins with the first pick in the 2014 NBA draft last week and possesses a ton of young talent. In addition to that, it is said to be contenders for LeBron James’ services.

Signing Irving to a long-term deal is the first step in a long road back to relevance for the Cavaliers. Remember, it was only a couple months ago that it seemed there was a tremendous rift between Irving and the Cavs. That appears to have been narrowed a whole lot.
