Report: Carmelo Anthony Likely Returning to the New York Knicks

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has apparently agreed to return to the team barring a last-second change of heart. He was one of the most sought-after free agents on the NBA market and it appears that his final decision came down to the Knicks, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers.

Anthony is coming off what could be considered the best season of an already Hall of Fame worthy career. He averaged 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and over three assists per game for the Knicks in 2013-2014.

It remains to be seen what the Knicks plan to surround Anthony with in 2014-2015, but retaining one of the top free agents to hit the market is a great start. Knicks president Phil Jackson had numerous opportunities to lay out a plan to Anthony, who likely received a larger deal from New York than any offer another team could have made for his services.
