OT Eric Winston Announces Deal with the Seahawks

Veteran offensive tackle Eric Winston announced Tuesday morning that he has signed with the Seattle Seahawks. The former third-round pick out of Miami has started 118 games in his eight-year NFL career.

Winston is coming off a decent year with the Arizona Cardinals that saw him start all 16 games at right tackle. The 30-year-old offensive lineman is expected to compete with rookie Justin Britt and second-year tackle Michael Bowie for Seattle’s starting right tackle job, which has been a concern for the team over the past couple seasons. Bowie started eight games as a rookie last season, but left a whole heck of a lot to be desired in pass protection.

While Winston has seen his game decline over the past couple seasons, he isn’t too far removed from being one of the best zone-blocking offensive tackles in the NFL. In fact, he played at a Pro Bowl level for the Houston Texans in both 2009 and 2010.

Winston is also currently the NFLPA president, so you know he has the respect of other players around the league.
