New Book Blames Bernie Kosar’s Post-Retirement Issues on Browns

The often sad and curious case of former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar continues. After being removed of his duties as the Browns preseason analyst due to what was perceived to be unfair on-air criticism of  a St. Louis Rams backup quarterback last summer, a new book is indicating that Kosar’s slurred speech and other off-field issues are a result of painkillers the Browns gave him during his playing days.

A new book titled Blood Sport – Alex Rodriguez, Biogenesis and the Quest to End Baseball’s Steroid Era focuses on rampant drug abuse around the professional sports world. The authors,  Miami New Times’ Tim Elfrink and Newsday’s Gus Garcia-Roberts, indicate that Kosar was “steered” to a biogenesis clinic in Miami, Florida by former Hurricane defensive end Julio Cortes.

It goes on tell us a story of Kosar’s post-NFL life being marred with afflictions directly linked to injuries he suffered and pain killers he took while playing football.

After a twelve-season pro career, Kosar has stumbled through a sometimes-incoherent retirement, marred by batty behavior, bankruptcy and drunk-driving arrests.

Kosar has had what can be considered an often-disastrous post-football life. He played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins. During that time, Kosar was sacked a total of 273 times.

This very same book indicates that suspended New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez received permission by MLB to use PED’s at various points in his career. More information on that story can be found here.
