Mariners Acquire Kendrys Morales from the Twins

The Seattle Mariners have announced the acquisition of infielder and designated hitter Kendrys Morales from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for reliever Stephen Pryor.

Morales, who signed a one-year contract with Minnesota back in June, is hitting .234 with one homer and 18 RBI’s on the season. He was signed so late into the year in part due to the fact that whoever agreed to terms with him would have had to yield a draft pick to the Mariners. This all changed once the MLB draft started last month, at which point said compensation was no longer a factor.

Seattle is in desperate need of some more hitting in order to contend with the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels in the AL West. Morales, who put up 23 homers for these very same Mariners last season, should give them a shot in the arm offensively.

In terms of what Minnesota received in this deal, Stephen Pryor last pitched regularly in the Majors back in 2012. The 25-year-old righty was 4-3 with a 4.65 ERA with Triple-A Tacoma at the time of the deal. Needless to say, Seattle didn’t necessarily yield a whole lot for Morales’ services.
