Live Updates: 2014 MLB All-Star Rosters Announced

The 2014 MLB All-Star rosters were announced early Sunday evening and there were some surprises. Among them, only one player from the Oakland Athletics who boast the best record in baseball, will start for the American League.

The A’s do have seven players going to the All-Star Game. Jess Samardzija (practically selected as a Cub), Scott Kazmir, Sean Doolittle, Brandon Moss, Derek Norris and Yoenis Cespedes joins Josh Donaldson as representatives for the two-time defending AL West champions.

As it relates to other American League All-Stars, Derek Jeter will be making yet another appearance in his final MLB season.

Starting in Wieters stead will be Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez.

Here are the National League starters.

It is rather surprising that Aramis Ramirez will get the nod over Todd Frazier, who has been better in the first half of the season. The Milwaukee Brewers, who boast the best record in the National League, will also feature Carlos Gomez as a starter in the outfield.

America’s first baseman Paul Goldschmidt earned his second straight All-Star Game appearance for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Here are the American League pitchers.

In a feel-good story, journeyman reliever Pat Neshak will make the All-Star Game for the St. Louis Cardinals. The veteran lost his infant child when he was a member of the A’s two years ago. It’s his first appearance in the summer classic.

Clearing up some confusion, Samardzija will be a member of the NL All-Star Team, but will be inactive for the game. He will be waring an A’s uniform and be in the AL dugout.

Kurt Suzuki will represent the hometown Minnesota Twins in the game. Here are the other AL reserves.

Dee Gordon, who has had his fair share of ups and downs, has been selected as a reserve for the NL squad.

As always, there were some notable snubs.

Here are the NL reserves.

And the NL pitchers.

A tad confused? Here are the starters for both squads one final time.

The fans will chose one additional player for each squad. Here are the candidates for the “final vote.”
