Larry Fitzgerald Claims the Patriots Didn’t Approach Him Regarding a Trade

Rumors leaked in January that the New England Patriots were exploring trade options for the Arizona Cardinals’ All-Pro wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald, who claims the Patriots never approached him directly regarding a trade, is now speaking out on the situation.

Fitzgerald had this to say to USA Today when asked if the Patriots ever talked to him (h/t NFL.com).

Nothing at all. I mean, I heard stuff that was being said. But there was never a time where the team approached me. Nothing like that.

The whispers died down after Fitzgerald restructured his contract with the Cardinals in February. However, more speculation is bound to occur during next offseason as the $23.6 million becomes a reality against the team’s salary cap in 2015.

When asked if he sees 2014 as a contract year, Fitzgerald told USA Today that he plans to “cherish every moment” on the field.

Fitzgerald concluded by stating..

Whatever happens after the season, happens after the season. But most of that stuff is out of my control anyway.

All sounds status quo for now, but who wouldn’t want to see just one season where Tom Brady passes 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns to eight-time Pro Bowl Fitzgerald? Then again, the Patriots could very well be a prime landing spot for currently disgruntled Houston Texans receiver Andre Johnson.
