Two current rookies are among the top-six selling jerseys in the National Football league right now. According to a press release by the NFL, Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel boasts the top-selling jersey with St. Louis Rams rookie Michael Sam coming in at No. 6 overall.
Here is the full list of the top-25 selling jerseys in the NFL as teams prepare to get started with training camps this week.
Manziel seeing his name atop this list shouldn’t be considered too much of a surprise. He’s likely the most talked about rookie since Cam Newton came into the league back in 2011. The Texas A&M product has been oft-criticized for his off-field endeavours this offseason, but there is little doubting just how popular he is.
Sam’s inclusion in the top six has to be somewhat surprising. As the first openly gay NFL draft pick, Sam has seen his name in the headlines a great deal in recent months. But he was a seventh-round pick and isn’t guaranteed a roster spot with the Rams. Even if Sam does earn a spot on their final 53-man roster, he’s unlikely to see a whole lot of action on defense as a rookie.
Two Seattle Seahawks players, Russell Wilson and Richard Sherman, find themselves in the top five. Again, not too much of a surprise considering they are the most popular players on the Seahawks roster.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning round out the top five.
