Giants Looking to Ban Culturally Insensitive Items from Ballpark

What ever happened to freedom of expression? Apparently the San Francico Giants are in the process of throwing that out in order to cater to those of a specific belief that opinions that are not their own have no place in an open American society.

According to this report from a local CBS station, the Giants may ban what they are calling “culturally insensitive” items from AT&T Park.

The report went on to tell us a story of a specific incident that took place during a Giants game earlier this season.

A couple of weeks ago, at AT&T Park’s Native American Heritage Night, two groups of fans had a disagreement over the issue of what should and shouldn’t be worn.
SF Examiner reported two Native American fans asked a third fan, who appeared to be Caucasian, to remove a headdress he was wearing.

Giants Sr. Vice President Staci Slaughter had this to say about the potential ban.

We want to make sure that our fans are respectful of each other and the different backgrounds that everyone comes from.

That’s fine and dandy, but you are then essentially limiting freedom of expression. Where is the line drawn in the sand?

Do the Giants ban a fan from showing up in non-gender conforming gear? What about the idea of someone wearing a “I hate Nancy Pelosi t-shirt?” Would that fall under the guise of a “culturally insensitive” item? After all, Pelosi is revered by most in San Francisco as the former Speaker of the House.

The idea here is that you simply don’t know where this potential ban would end. There is no worksheet to work off of, no etched-in-stone policy and no way of being objective to the broader American community.

What may be insensitive in San Francisco, might not be considered insensitive in Texas. It’s a ridiculous thought to even fathom.
