Florida Gators Feature Aaron Hernandez in 2014 Calendar

Aaron Hernandez

An official 2014 Florida Gators football calendar, which was approved prior to Aaron Hernandez being charged with three counts of murder, features the former college football and NFL tight end as the photo for the month of July.

It might be a story of bad timing for the University of Florida, as this report from ESPN suggests.

Officials approved the calendar last spring, prior to Hernandez being arrested on June 26, 2013, in the slaying of Odin Lloyd, said Florida spokesman Daniel Apple.

The calendar, which was still available for sale through Target.com, features a photograph of the former tight end for the month of July.

As Florida officials point out, thousands of licensed products are approved for high-profile football programs, usually be third parties. It’s still rather interesting that none of the products were recalled and the department store Target still sells Hernandez’s version online.

As Deadspin points out…

Every single thing about this is totally understandable. Still, you can buy a Florida Gators calendar with an alleged murderer in it in Target. Yikes.

We now have to wonder if Mike Pouncey plans on purchasing this calendar as a show of support for his former teammate.
