Will Smith to Star in Movie About NFL Concussions

The NFL concussion issue is about to go Hollywood. Mega star Will Smith has apparently joined big-time director Ridley Scott in an upcoming project that will focus on a doctor who made the first diagnosis of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) in a professional football player.

Smith will portray Dr. Bennet Omalu, who is also responsible for making the health risk known to the public.

According to Firstshowing.net, the film will focus on the following.

As we previously reported, the film is aimed to take place in the world of professional football, but don’t count on any cooperation from the actual NFL. That means you can expect a lot of fictional sports teams on display as opposed to those we see on television during football season. This issue is one that Scott is passionate about, and landing a big star like Smith was a goal in order to get as much attention paid to this film as possible.

Once this goes Hollywood with big names attached to it, those in American society who have ignored the topic in the past will likely come out and act as yet another voice for former NFL players suing the league. It’s a relatively big deal.
