Report: Toronto Blue Jays Interested in Chase Headley

Despite currently having to deal with a herniated disc, which could impact his ability to make an impact in the second half of the season, San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley is drawing some interest around the MLB world.

According to Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly looking into acquiring the former Silver Slugger Award winner.

At least one team – the Toronto Blue Jays – has discussed acquiring the Padres’ third baseman, multiple baseball sources have confirmed. Of particular interest this weekend to the Blue Jays and several teams that have checked on Headley’s availability – many of whom will watch him closely this weekend – is the herniated disc that required an epidural injection last week.

Headley is hitting .205 with six homers and 23 RBI’s on the season. He has struggled a great deal for the Padres since racking up 115 RBI’s back in 2012.

It remains to be seen what San Diego might be asking for an injury-riddled soon-to-be free agent, who has been terrible this season and is set to make over $5 million for the remainder of the year.

Toronto, currently in first place in the AL East, is in need of an offensive upgrade at the third base position. But Headley would be a risk in more ways than one.
