Report: 3 Los Angeles Clippers Players to Decline 2014-2015 Options

The Los Angeles Clippers are going to look to take the next step and become Western Conference favorites this offseason. In this, they needed a few different things to fall into place. Three such things seem primed to do just that at some point this month, as Darren Collison, Glen Davis and Danny Granger are all going to reportedly opt out of their contracts (via ESPN.com)

The trio might have combined for over 23 points per game during the 2013-2014 regular season, but they were set to earn a total of about $4.6 million next season. That extra money could very well be used to lure a top-of-the-market free agents in a sign-and-trade deal. Los Angeles is right up against the luxury tax, but could also be able to dump a couple contracts and draft picks in exchange for a difference maker.

While losing these three might hurt the Clippers’ bench, it might very well help them long term. It just remains to be seen whether they will really be in the market for the LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony’s of the world. If so, that extra $5 million in cap room might come in handy.
