New York Jets Cut No-Show RB Mike Goodson

The New York Jets cut troubled running back Mike Goodson for failing to report to the teams’ mandatory minicamp. Coach Rex Ryan and some teammates expressed concern for Goodson, for whom they have lost contact with and who faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty for felony gun possession.

Some of Goodson’s teammates are concerned that he has not returned any calls or texts from the Jets.

Guard, Willie Colon had this to say, as reported by ESPN.

That’s the scariest part. Usually, a guy will send you a text and say, ‘I’m OK.’ Not to hear anything is scary in itself. All you can do is send out prayers to him.

Goodson has had his fair share of issues including a four-game suspension last year for violating the NFL substance abuse policy. He and another person were found in a stopped vehicle by the New Jersey Police back in May of 2013, where Goodson allegedly was in possession of marijuana and a semiautomatic gun. Following an indictment in November on the gun charge, Goodson served his suspension, returned to play, then blew out his knee after two games.

Goodson’s court date for the May 2013 incident is scheduled for next week in New Jersey. Additionally, if Goodson is found to be in violation of the personal-conduct policy, he could once again be suspended.

Goodson, out of Texas A&M, was a fourth-round draft pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2009. Between injuries and personal issues, Goodson has only managed a total of 763 rushing yards and three touchdowns in his five NFL seasons.

Hopefully, Goodson surfaces soon, as it is agreeably scary that he has not responded to any phone calls or texts from what is now, his former team.
