The Los Angeles Angels, who are looking to remain competitive with the Oakland Athletics in the AL West, have acquired Pittsburgh Pirates closer Jason Grilli in exchange for reliever Ernesto Frieri.

Grilli has posted 11 saves with a 4.87 ERA on the season for Pittsburgh. He’s coming off an All-Star 2013 campaign that saw him tally a career-high 33 saves.
For the Pirates, they get slightly younger with Frieri, who has struggled big time in 2014. He’s posted a 6.39 ERA thus far this year and has declined in each of the last three years.
This is a swap of struggling closers, as both players will likely maintain their original roles with their new clubs.
