Daniel Bard’s Epic Meltdown Continues

Former Boston Red Sox first-round pick Daniel Bard, now in Single-A in the Texas Rangers organization, may be hitting Rick Ankiel levels as it relates to control problems from the bump.

Bard, who was last seen in MLB with the Red Sox last season, is now pitching for the Hickory Crawdads and it isn’t going too well.

According to Pro Baseball Talk, Bard’s control issues have hit an all-time low.

The 28-year-old right-hander allowed four runs without recording an out in Sunday’s appearance against the Lakewood Blueclaws, pushing his ERA up to 175.50 in two-thirds of an inning.

The report goes on to indicate that Bard has allowed 13 runs without yielding a single hit. He’s walked nine batters and hit another seven in 2/3 of an inning of work.

While control was always an issue for Bard with the Red Sox, he did have some success with them in the past. Bard recorded a 1.93 ERA in 73 appearances with Boston back in 2010.
